Why you should consider a gift to the 2018 PTA Pledge Drive!

The Pledge Drive is off to a great start! Just two weeks in and 43 families and two staff have donated ~$9,000. Wow! Here's a look at one way PTA monies are used:

Did you know that each teacher is given $500 at the start of every school year? Without this PTA-funded gift, teachers would likely have to dip into their own pockets to create the atmosphere in their classrooms that make it a comfortable environment for everyone. You can rest assured knowing your financial donation in any amount will allow our children walk into classrooms that have everything they need to be successful learners and feel like it's a second home.

Please consider giving at a level that is comfortable for your family. Thank you for the support!

Send in your Pledge Drive donation today!

Are you ready for severe weather, power outages, and earthquakes?

Join us for our Emergency Preparedness for Families class with Jennifer Kelty on Thursday, October 18, from 6:30-8 p.m. in the school cafeteria to learn how to make grab-and-go bags for cars and workplaces, and how to begin preparing your family and home for a variety of emergency situations. Also hear from Wedgwood dad, Matt Cook, about emergency preparedness in your child’s classroom. We will provide supplies to begin making a grab and go bag, and there will be lots of displays to check out and some great door prizes! Note: There won't be child care, but there will be coloring pages for kids.

Wanted: art docents (no experience required)

Are you looking for a way to volunteer this year that is fun and thought provoking? Interested in getting the kids at Wedgwood excited about art and maybe learning a bit yourself? Sign up as art docents and join our inspired group of volunteers as we discover and explore art, craft and architecture and maybe get a little messy! Absolutely no art background required, just enthusiasm and some organizational skills. Commitment is only once a month for an hour during school hours.

Contact Darcy Nestorovic and Annick Garcia Rooney at wedgwoodartdocent@gmail.com with any questions.

Marmot book picks on Instagram

Did you know that Ms. Leland, our awesome librarian, manages an Instagram account with fantastic book suggestions for Marmots? Check out instagram.com/readingmarmots for her latest suggestions for hot book picks for kids.

Garden Corner: Volunteers wanted

We are still looking for dedicated parent volunteers to help us run our Learning Garden programs! Are you interested in helping weed, prune, and maintain the garden? Would you like to work with students to expand their knowledge of the schoolyard ecosystem?

Sign up here to participate in one of these exciting opportunities! You can also check the garden bulletin board for updates on garden tasks to be done on weekends or after school when you are waiting to pick up your child. No prior garden experience necessary. If you have any questions about how to get involved, contact Nicole Parish-Andrews, Garden Coordinator, at nparish@foxberryeducation.com.  0

Move those feet: It's Walktober

Did you know that October is also known as Walktober and is International Walk to School Month? You should have already received a walking minutes log for each student in Kid Mail so you can track your walking in October. Turn it in at the end of the month and we'll see which classroom has walked the most! Any walking counts -- not just walking to school. This is a great warm-up for the Move-a-Thon.

Seeking business sponsors for Move-a-thon

Our annual Move-a-thon fundraiser is approaching, and the PTA is looking for event sponsors! At Move-a-thon, Wedgwood students raise money by walking, jogging, running, or moving around track. Their laps are tallied on a student designed Move-a-thon T-shirt distributed to every all students and faculty on the day of the event. So that all funds raised by students can go directly to enrichment programs, the PTA is seeking the help of local businesses to cover the cost of the T-shirts. With a minimum donation of $150, business sponsors will receive prominent recognition on the shirts, at the event, and on the school website.

For more information, or to become a business sponsor, please email Lillian Keil and Keilee Kramer at wedgwoodmoveathon@gmail.com

Keep the Mighty Movers Moving!

Mighty Movers is a program during the kids lunchtime recess (K-3rd) where they can run or walk around the track. Kids earn foot charms when they reach a certain goal. Please help our kids with this special program. I have kids stop me in the hallways and on the playground asking if there will be Mighty Movers this week, but we often don’t have enough volunteers. Please consider volunteering, it doesn’t have to be a weekly commitment, please sign up here when you are available. Thanks! You may sign up here. Volunteers are needed on Mondays from 11:40 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
