Move-a-thon thank you and pledge reminder

Thank you to all the volunteers and visitors who came out to support our school at the Move-a-thon last week! The weather was perfect, the music was on point, and Wedgwood students moved just over 842 miles.

Don’t forget to turn in those pledge envelopes before Friday! Please consider an extra donation to get your student up to at least $100 raised. This will help us meet our goal and fully fund this year’s budget! Pledges must be received by Friday Nov. 16, to be eligible for prizes.

Find out more at the website's Move-a-thon page.

Thank you to our amazing events leads

What a fun-filled week at Wedgwood! Walktober, Move-a-thon, 90’s Dance Party... thank you to all our event leads, Deirdre, Lillian, Keilee, Nancy, and Shidan for all your hard work, and to the many, many volunteers who stepped up to make all these events the best they could be!

Think YOU’D be a great event lead?! Let’s do it! Contact Chantel Anderson at: marmotptaevents@gmail.com

Wedgwood PTA launches new website!

Don't forget to check out the new website dedicated to PTA news, information and events at Wedgwood Elementary. We recognized the need for a dedicated place families can go for information ranging from the lunch bell schedule to the calendar of events to a breakdown of what the PTA does at Wedgwood Elementary. We hope you’ll find it to be a useful tool and encourage you all to spend some time checking it out! https://www.wedgwoodpta.org/.

Last day of the Book Fair!

Greetings from your Librarian! Did you know that all money for books in our library come from the generosity of our PTA? We recognize that not all schools have a PTA or parent community that is able to raise enough money to give to their librarian. This year, Wedgwood families will have the option to donate either $1, $5 or $10 for Olympic Hills Elementary during the sale.

In addition, 55% of all book sales at our fair will come back to our school library! The book fair is on through Friday (7:30-10 am). Stop by to check out books for your child, and please consider giving to Olympic Hills!

Wedgwood Pantry

Thank you to everyone who donated to the food drive at the Fall dance. Thanks to your generosity we have filled up the Wedgwood Pantry. If your family is in need of food support simply visit the pantry (located in the basement near the elevator) and either grab pre-packaged bags or select whatever you'd like by creating your own bag. The Wedgwood Pantry is supplemented all year long by donating to the food drive bin at the main entrance. Thank you for your support! - Yoko Shimomura

Also: Please contact shimomurayoko@gmail.com if you have interest in managing the Wedgwood Pantry next year.... I am graduating.

Walktober results are in!

Walktober results are in! Our Marmots walked more than 4,700 miles in October – that’s about 75 percent increase from last year, when students walked 2,700 miles.

Even better, our total number of participants more than doubled since last year, increasing from 110 in 2017 to 260 Marmots turning in logs this year.

With all those miles, the results were close. In third place, In third place is Ms. Williams' third grade class with 407 miles. In second place, Ms. Benfield’s first grade class with more than 520 miles. And in first place, Ms. Tice’s kindergarten class with almost 530 miles. This is the second year that a kindergarten class has taken first place in Walktober!

Garden corner

The 5th grade classes have completed a huge project in the garden! If you haven't checked it out yet, take a look at the path behind the garden beds on the East side of the garden. After learning about impermeable vs. permeable surfaces, particle sizes in soil, and discussing solutions for the drainage problem, each class took on a section of the path. They removed the pavers and raised the path, added sand, dug ditches and filled them with gravel, then put the pavers back in. It was a project the students can be proud of. They made the garden a better place for years to come!

The other garden classes at Wedgwood are going great as well! We have already done our transplanting starts unit, the second graders just learned how to identify and save seeds, and now we are moving onto worms! If you are interested in helping out in the garden in any way, please contact Nicole Parish-Andrews, Garden Coordinator: nparish@foxberryeducation.com
