Welcome New Families!

  • Enroll here. Families living within the Wedgwood boundaries, which are set by Seattle Public School, are guaranteed admission to Wedgwood Elementary. Families outside the boundaries may apply for admission via School Choice during Open Enrollment (typically in February).

  • No. Jumpstart has not been offered at Wedgwood for many years. SPS is shifting models and doing a delayed start for Kindergarteners, allowing one on one time with teachers during the first week of school to help your student acclimate to the classroom. n

  • Teacher contracts begin near the end of August. That is the first day your student's teacher will be in the classroom. Teacher notifications will be announced that week. Be patient.

  • Teachers will reach out directly with day 1 procedures, start time, class expectations, and additional information. The first day of school for 1st - 5th graders is the Wednesday after Labor Day.

For kindergarteners, the first day of school is the Monday after Labor Day. Kindergarten teachers will also contact families directly with day 1 information.

Contact the school principal with questions.

  • For K-2nd Grade

K-2 families do NOT need to purchase school supplies. All K-2 students will be receiving supplies through the school. Per SPS "In an effort to promote a sense of community, classroom materials will be purchased for the group and shared. Purchasing in bulk through the district, gives us a better price than you would probably find going to multiple places, shopping the back-to-school sales. Families are being asked to pay a supply fee in the fall that will cover your a student’s class supplies and Technology fee for the year. Families will be expected to provide a backpack and lunchbox (if applicable)."

K-2 teachers may ask families for additional classroom supplies.

    For 3rd-5th Grade

    See School Supplies.

  • Information on SPS provided transportation to and from school can be found at this SPS Transit Link.

Bussing information is typically mailed 1-2 weeks prior to school start. If you have not received information on your students transportation contact: SPS Transit Department

  • Students dine in our cafeteria, which is open before school for breakfast and during the lunch hour.

For information about meals and payment options, please see Wedgwood's Student Meal Page.

  • Lunch time is 20 minutes for all grades. Kindergartners eat with the 1st graders. 2nd/3rd together and 4th/5th grades together. Recess follows lunch time.

  • Principal Smith will communicate Wedgwood Bell Times and drop off plans in a welcome email prior to school starting. This email also explains where your student can enter the campus, and behavior expectations. Last year students and parents / guardians were allowed on school grounds starting at 7:40am.

  • Teachers will reach out prior to the first day of school to understand if your child will be picked up by you, an approved guardian, or being chaperoned to afterschool care. Teachers will communicate their door / playground pick up location. Students may not walk themselves home until they are in 3rd grade.

  • Seattle Public School does not directly provide any after school care. The PTA offers after school enrichment classes and third-party vendors offer licensed childcare on and offsite. See After School.

  • Ask your teacher to connect you with your class Room Parent.

Many families also find Facebook a convenient way to communicate and connect. There is a Wedgwood Elementary community page in additional to community pages for each grade. See Wedgwood Facebook pages.

  • The PTA sends a weekly newsletter via email. Subscribe here. The newsletter is sent weekly during the school year and once during the summer, a few weeks before school starts. The newsletter welcomes community announcements as well. Submit an article for the Wedgwood Weekly.
