Open Executive Positions for 2024-2025

The Wedgwood PTA is here to bridge the relationship between our school and our families by engaging and empowering our community to support our students in achieving their full potential. The PTA is led by an Executive Committee of elected family volunteers and we are in need of a few key members for the 2024 - 2025 school year.

  • Vice-President: Partners with the President, transitioning to the President role in late Spring.  Works as liaison to the community.  Provides oversight and support for PTA fundraising and events.

  • Treasurer (outgoing funds): Dispenses money for PTA expenses, maintains all accounts and records, provides monthly reports and projections at PTA meetings and files all tax forms.  Serves as chair of the budget/finance committee and presents the budget to membership.

  • Events & Volunteer Co-Lead: Recruits events chairs and event volunteers as needed for PTA sponsor events.  Maintains a roster of current volunteers, plans volunteer appreciation events.  Provides focus and acts as a resource for event chairs through the planning process.

Executive Committee for 2023-2024

The Executive Committee constitute the primary leadership of the Wedgwood PTA. They are elected by general membership vote in the spring of each year. The Executive Committee meets monthly to govern the PTA and to oversee the planning events and programs to increase community and the general well-being of Wedgwood Elementary students.

Board of Directors for 2023-2024

The standing Board of Directors are non-elected positions for which any PTA member can volunteer. The Board of Directors meets monthly with the Executive Committee and these Board meetings are open to all staff and members of the Wedgwood Community.

Event and Program Leads

So many wonderful volunteers contribute to the success of our many events and programs. These events, program and volunteer position descriptions can be found here.

What do these board members do?

Executive Committee Positions

President | Leads the PTA in fulfilling its mission, including by steering its Board of Directors, connecting with school staff and leadership and fostering community.

Vice President | Partners with the President, transitioning to the President role in late Spring. Works as liaison to community. Provides oversight and support for PTA fundraising and events.

Past President/Past Board Member | Serves in advisory role, helping to ensure continuity.

Secretary | Collects information for meeting agendas, prior to the meeting, and distributes agendas for each board meeting. Takes minutes and records business transacted at each meeting (board and general meetings). Keeps an accurate, concise, permanent record of proceedings at all PTA board and general meetings.

Treasurer (2 positions) | Collects money for PTA functions, dispenses money for PTA expenses, maintains all accounts and records, provides monthly reports and projections at PTA meetings and files all tax forms. Serves as chair of the budget/finance committee and presents the budget to the membership.

Board Positions

Arts Liaison | Collaborates with Wedgwood Elementary staff arts specialists to create arts enrichment initiatives supported by the PTA and community.

Communications | Directs PTA communications, ensuring that the community is kept informed of PTA events, opportunities and needs. Provides focus, streamlines, enhances and acts a resource for all PTA-related communications, including the Wedgwood Weekly email newsletter, the PTA website, and social media channels.

Diversity & Inclusion | Leads diversity, inclusion, and equity efforts on behalf of the PTA, ensuring that Wedgwood is representing its communities. Consults with and supports school staff, faculty, and leadership in developing and acting upon meaningful D&I priorities.

Events & Volunteers | Recruits events chairs and event volunteers as needed for PTA sponsored events. Maintains a roster of current volunteers, plans volunteer appreciation events. Provides focus and acts as a resource for event chairs through the planning process.

Fundraising | Oversees fundraising, partnering with Executive Board to meet fundraising goals for the year. Recruits volunteers to help in planning and execution of fundraising initiatives, including the Move-a-Thon.

Garden & Playground| This position oversees garden programming and planning as well as recruiting volunteers for garden upkeep & maintenance. Also acts as a liaison between the school and PTA to address playground equipment needs and concerns.

Legislative | Keeps track of national, state, and local PTA legislative concerns, reporting them to the Board and general membership at meetings and via the Wedgwood Weekly newsletter.

Membership & Teacher Appreciation | Coordinates the drive for PTA membership that happens in early fall. Initiates ongoing opportunities for teacher and staff appreciation.

Scholarship | Coordinates PTA and community support for Wedgwood families, including semi-annual drives for food and other needed supplies.

Special Education Liaison | Serves as a liaison between the school and PTA, working to advocate for Wedgwood students with special education needs.

Events & Programs Lead Positions

After School Enrichment | Plans and oversees after school enrichment offerings at Wedgwood. Coordinates with outside vendors, reserves building spaces, organizes and communicates with families about sign-ups, manages the 6 Crickets registration platform, and coordinates chaperones.

Auction | Spring | Plans and oversees the Auction, an annual PTA fundraising event that brings together the parent community to eat, drink, get to know each other, and have a great time raising money for the school.

Back to School BBQ | September | Oversees the Back to school BBQ, a family event. This event is the perfect way to come back together after a long summer! Featuring: Food, family-friendly activities, spirit gear sales, and tables touting upcoming Wedgwood PTA-sponsored activities! 

Bike-to-School | Oversees Bike-to-School activities a couple or more times a year, including during Bike-to-School month (May), encouraging kids to bike, walk, or roll to school.

BLT (Building Leadership Team) Representative | Attends monthly school Building Leadership Team meetings to act as an additional representative (in addition to a PTA president) for parents/students and liaison with school staff.

CANSSPA Representative(s) | Represents the Wedgwood PTA at monthly Central and North Seattle Schools PTA Alliance (CANSSPA) virtual meetings. Serves as a liaison between the school and the alliance to improve educational equity among north & central Seattle schools.

Carnival | June | Oversees the Wedgwood Carnival—a family event with rides, treats, games, and more. 

Comfort Kits | September | Leads and works with room parents to gather comfort kits from every child and update the school’s emergency supplies.

Cultural Festival | January/February | At this family event, get to know your fellow Marmots as we celebrate the family traditions and cultural influences that make our community so special.

Fall Dance | October/November | Our Fall Dance is a chance for families to gather at school. Dance in the cafeteria and find games and other activities throughout the school.

Family Directory | November – December | Creates a family directory of Wedgwood students for families.

Kindergarten Social | Fall | This family event - returning after a hiatus - is for Kindergarten families to introduce them to the Wedgwood school community.

Lost & Found | Manages the lost and found, posting photos to social media, pulling the rack out for parents to peruse at pick-up, donating items to Goodwill twice a year, and putting out a call-out to parents before those donations occur.

Mighty Movers | Oversees this ever-popular weekly Wedgwood staple. Organizes 3-4 parent volunteers to mark off laps and hand out tiny feet to kids who complete a lap during lunch recess each Friday.

Move-a-Thon | Fall | Oversees the Wedgwood Move-A-Thon, a fun PTA fundraiser where students move around the Wedgwood playground track to raise money for the school.

Reader Board | September-June | Updates the reader board in front of the school with events.

Room Parent Liaison | September-June | Supports room parents in their role and acts as a liaison between the PTA and room parents.

School Supplies | May, August-September | Manages and coordinates the buying of preset school supply packages. Works with the school on the needs of each grade and promotes the sale for the needed grades. Manages the handout of supplies at the beginning of the school year.

Social Media | August-June | Works with the Communications Chair to keep the community updated on school & PTA events via social media. Manages overall Wedgwood PTA social media presence.

Spirit Gear | September-June | Oversees ordering and sales of Wedgwood spirit gear, including shirts, hoodies, and yard signs.

Volunteer Appreciation Event | May/June | Oversees the student-led Volunteer Appreciation Event at school.

STEAM Night | March | This family event celebrates Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math! We welcome scientists and experts from a variety of organizations and our own Wedgwood community. Students are invited to present science projects and participate in designing something to protect an egg from a 100-foot drop from the top of a fire truck ladder.

Used Book Sale | April/May | This PTA-sponsored event collects kids’ books from the Wedgwood community and resells them.  

Yearbook | September – May | Yearbook chair(s) collect and take photos throughout the school year and finalize the layout of the yearbook. Coordinates with others to get pictures representing all aspects of Wedgwood. Manages the yearbook cover contest.
