Application Grants

Who is eligible?

All Wedgwood Elementary staff. Applicants are encouraged to engage with the PTA and school leadership in project development. Applications may be submitted by individuals or as collaborations between multiple staff. All staff who will be using grant funds should be listed below as co-applicants.

What are the application deadlines?

  • Fall Grant Applications DUE 11/1

  • Spring Grant Applications DUE 2/1

  • March thru June Applications DUE the first of the month, as long as money remains in the fund.

What can these funds be used for?

Grant funds are intended to provide new opportunities for staff andstudents that may involve supplementing existing programs or adding new programs, subscriptions or materials, supplies or new technology. For an example of previous awards, please see the PTA website or discuss with members of the PTA executive board.

How are applications reviewed?

  1. Principal Review | The principal will review for alternative funding options and indicate if they recommend the project for funding.

  2. Executive Committee Review | The Executive Committee will score applications based on the following criteria, and then present it to the Board: PTA Membership, Availability of other PTA Funding (Stipend, Grant, School Staff Grant), # of students served, Alignment within suggested Funding Bands, Beneficiaries (Students/Families/Staff) Alignment with PTA mission & vision, Project Details, Budget, Longevity of project, Availability of alternative funding, per principal. After reviewing all applications, the Executive Committee will develop a funding proposal for the Board to consider. This may include full or partial funding of projects, depending on the budget.

  3. The Board Review | The Board will review each project and the proposed funding from the Executive Committee. They will vote whether to approve or deny the funding. Optional: Applicants are encouraged to attend the PTA Board meeting where their application will be discussed.

The PTA suggests that funding aligns within these bands:

  • For 1-35 students served (~1 class), suggested funding: Less than $249

  • For 36-90 students served (~1 grade), suggested funding: Up to $749

  • For 90-179 students served (~2 grades), suggested funding: Up to $1499

  • For 180 or more students served (>3 grades), suggested funding: Up to $2500

When will the PTA review applications?

The PTA will review applications in November and February. After February, applications will be reviewed monthly at the next PTA Board meeting, as long as money remains in the fund.

How is funding awarded?

Applications will be awarded from the “Grants” line item in the budget for the current school year. Partial funding may be offered unless full funding is required. Up to one-half of the“Grants” funding will be awarded in November. Any application not funded in November will automatically be reconsidered in February. From March thru June, the PTA will award grants as long as money remains in the fund.

How much money is available?

The PTA budget and monthly financial reports are available for review. Grants are limited to $2500. For requests over $2500, contact the PTA.

I was awarded a grant. How do I access my grant funds?

Grant funds will be reimbursed based on receipts. Grants may not carry over funds to the next school year. All purchases must be completed (receipts submitted) by the last day of school.

Grant Awardee Agreement

Grant awardees agree to the following:

  • Funds will not be used for the following: to replace emergency funds, scholarships, professional development, transportation, facilities modifications, or staff salaries.

  • Keep receipts for related purchases for reimbursement; or arrange for direct payment prior to purchasing.

  • A brief description of stipends and awarded grants will be posted to the PTA website.

  • All items purchased via classroom stipend or grant funds remain property of Wedgwood Elementary.

  • All purchases must be completed by the last day of school.

  • Notification of Building Leadership Team by the PTA that the award was granted.

  • Upon request, submit a report to the PTA with updates of project results, outcomes, and photos.

2023/24

  • Pickleball in PE: 32 intermediate paddles and 16 junior paddles; All students receive 3 to 4 PE pickelball sessions. ($630.63)

  • Music Classroom Setup for new music teacher. ($619.22)

  • Novel Study (More culturally diverse alternative to the CCC novel study): 5th grade ELA curriculum purchase of Esperanza Rising, a text that is more contemporary and meets the goals of our racial equity plan. In addition, the students in the combo 4/5 class last year have already read Tuck Everlasting and would benefit from an alternative text. ($400)

  • Air-Dry clay supplies including paints and sealers for 4th & 5th grades ($384)

  • Clay Projects for K-3 ($375)

  • Olympia Field Trip for 4th Grade: Buses to Olympia for a guided tour of the capitol. ($1000)

  • 5th Grade Camp ($1000)

2022/23

  • Lamination pouches for staff to make reusable signs and sturdier documents ($500)

  • Purchase of “Rebellious Read Aloud” (reading tool that addresses race & equity) ($2500)

2021/22

  • Play ground equipment (chalk, jump ropes, etc) ($500)

  • Supplies to repair library books ($800)

  • Subscription to “Our Nations Studies Weekly” publication for print and online access ($590)

  • Electronic Binding Machine for staff ($430)

  • Consumable playground equipment ($250)

  • Air dry clay for 4th and 5th grades ($300)

2019/20

  • Art supplies including clay, weaving, print making, and paint for Art History Curriculum ($500)

  • SEL Curriculum for K & 1st grade

  • SEL Training for K Team

  • Book It! Theater

  • Funds for substitute teachers to allow staff to apply anti-racist training that will be provided throughout the school year ($849)

2017/18

  • New library books

  • High interest reading visits about cats and dogs ($184)

  • Large photographs of Wedgwood students for the library and hallways ($3000)

  • Subscription to Social Studies Weekly ($665)

  • Headphone splitters for the library ($115)

  • Headphones for the library ($306)

  • Author visit & presentation from Poet Charles Waters “Can I Touch Your Hair?” ($500)
