Read-a-Thon 2023

Friday, December 15, 2023 - Monday, January 1, 2024

Our library could not provide top-quality books and resources to our students and staff without the support of our Wedgwood PTA and greater parent community. Thanks to your generosity last year, our library was able to replace worn, damaged, or lost books, update our nonfiction collection with current titles that reflect diverse perspectives, and purchase access to Book Breaks for our school which allows our teachers to have monthly virtual visits from authors throughout the year.

This December, our library in partnership with our PTA will be running our 2nd annual Wedgwood Read-a-thon from December 15th-January 1st.

Our fundraising goal: $26,000

As you can imagine, the cost of maintaining a library can be expensive. The average cost of a book used in a library is between $20-$25.  Although Seattle Schools has agreed to give $9 per student to each school library beginning this year, that funding will not fully meet the needs of our library.

The first $10,000 raised during this fundraiser will be used to fully fund the library, including:

  • Replacing well-loved favorite titles that are falling apart.

  • Adding new titles to our collection that continue to spark a love for reading in our students and support our classroom instruction.

  • Fill gaps in our collection by replacing lost or missing books.

  • Continue to add to our growing nonfiction collection

  • Extend our contract with Book Breaks for an additional year to virtual visits by top-rated authors such as Jeff Kinney, Kelly Yang, Dan Santat, Kate DiCamillo and many more.

Any additional funds raised will go directly into the general PTA fund. Learn more about how these funds are spent here.
