Last Chance for the Musical! Parent Information Meeting Tomorrow

James and the Giant Peach is rolling into town! If your 3rd-5th grader is interested in participating in the musical this year, at least one parent must attend one parent information meeting (adults only, no kids please). This meeting is for parents of kids interested in being in the cast; there will be a separate meeting for parents of kids interested in tech crew at a later date. At the meeting, we will cover important attendance and discipline policies, parent volunteer requirements, schedule, and fees. This is a great time to ask questions if you or your child are unsure about participating. There is one meeting date left: Tuesday, October 1 from 6-7pm. The meeting takes place in Portable 1. If you have any questions about the parent meeting, please email wedgwoodmusical@gmail.com.

Kindergarten Social

Our Kindergarten Social is coming up on Friday, October 10th from 6-8 in the cafeteria. Come gather to eat, mingle with other Kinder families, and decorate cookies! We need your help to make this event happen, so sign up here to help out. Thank you to Janeen Joshi for organizing!

Seattle School Board Elections

Each year, the Seattle School Board oversees $1 billion of taxpayer funds and makes decisions that impact every child.  On November 5th you will vote in all school board races in the general election —not only within your own district—so it is important to learn about every candidate! All candidates for open seats will be participating in two upcoming forums in North Seattle:

See you there!

Pledge Drive is in Full Swing!

The Pledge Drive has started off strong and we appreciate your support so far! We still have a long way to go, so we urge you to donate if your family can. Whether you are able to donate $5 or $50, your contribution will go a long way in ensuring the PTA's success in achieving its fundraising goals. You can donate using your credit card here , or fill out the Pledge Drive form and send to the school with your check. If you have any questions about the Pledge Drive or any other PTA fundraiser, please contact Justin Day at justindayrealestate@gmail.com.

Curriculum Night and Parent Meeting Recap

There was great turnout among parents and families at Curriculum Night last week! Thanks to all of the teachers who stayed at school after a long day to present to parents. After the classroom visits, there was a brief PTA presentation during which Jane Moody was elected as co-treasurer of the PTA board, and the 2019-2020 budget was approved. Two changes to the PTA's standings rules were also approved. Wedgwood parent and UW physician Helen Chu introduced a flu study that she and her team will be conducting at Wedgwood this year with participating families. Mr. Liu then walked through school-wide achievement goals and priorities for the coming year. Thanks to all who could be there!

Get moving with Mighty Movers!

Mighty Movers is a program during lunchtime recess that encourages and motivates students to run or walk laps around the track. Each time they complete a number of laps, they earn awesome foot-shaped charms that kids love to collect. They feel empowered and proud each time they complete a lap and earn a foot!

Please help our kids with this special program that gets them moving outdoors. We will be running the program on Fridays from 11:15-12:30 (lunch recess). It is a fun and easy job helping to mark laps and hand out the feet charms. This doesn’t have to be a weekly commitment; please sign up here!

Garden Fall Harvest Party

To celebrate the autumn bounty of the garden, we’re throwing a party! Our first garden event, the Fall Harvest Party, is Friday, October 4th. Please mark your calendar for an afternoon of fun fall festivities including cider pressing, crafts, a cupcake walk, and more! We need your help to make this garden kick-off event happen, so please sign up here!

Also, our wonderful garden docents always need volunteers to keep it in tip top shape. If you are interested in participating in the garden program by donating plants or materials, volunteering for classes or doing garden maintenance, please contact Nicole at nparish@foxberryeducation.com.

Wedgwood Pantry needs Donations

The Wedgwood Pantry provides free bags of food for Wedgwood families. While we hold an annual food drive for the pantry in November, the pantry could also use donations now!

The pantry welcomes canned food (soup, meats, fruit, vegetables), pasta, rice & kid-friendly food items (raisins, mac n cheese, crackers, snack bars, etc.). To drop off, just take the elevator down to the basement and leave food in the large marked container. If you have any questions, please email Christina Ellis at penellis@gmail.com. Thank you!
