Pledge Drive Enters Final Week

Marmot families, you have shown your generosity throughout our annual Pledge Drive and as we enter our final week, we are asking anyone who has not yet donated to please consider doing so. We have met 50% of our $30,000 goal and every dollar counts!

Wedgwood is known for its high academic standards and is one of the top performing schools in the district. But of equal importance to our leadership and teaching staff is meeting every student’s unique social and emotional needs. This approach to “teaching the whole child” goes well beyond what the district is able to provide, and where district dollars stop, the Wedgwood PTA steps in to provide. This is where your pledge drive dollars go to work.

Two years ago, Wedgwood staff asked the PTA to support their efforts to help kids who struggle with sensory needs that make ordinary tasks in the classroom a challenge. The PTA provided funding for a cart of sensory aids to be used throughout the school. According to kindergarten teacher Erin Kelly:

“Not only have these sensory items and benefitted the student who has sensory needs, but it brought up the conversation with all students that everyone has different needs. When we meet their needs, they can do their best and the students are learning this too. It highlights that everyone is different, but everyone is a valuable part of our community.” - Erin Kelly

With your donation, the PTA will be able to continue to support our teachers’ efforts to ensure every child at Wedgwood succeeds and feels like a valuable member of our school community.

Let’s finish this Pledge Drive strong, Marmots! Make your online donation today!

We Need You! Move-A-Thon Is November 1st

It's almost Move-a-Thon time! This kid-powered, family-favorite event is coming up on Friday, November, 1st and you can look for fundraising packets to come home with your student next week. If you're new to the Move-A-Thon, this packet will explain how pledge money is raised - your student can elect to raise money for every lap they run, or ask friends or family members for a flat dollar amount. There will be an all-school assembly a week before the Move-A-Thon to get kids excited for their big day!

We couldn't do this without the support from our Wedgwood community - come out and volunteer to make this day a big success! The reward is seeing these kids give it their all around the track, support one another, and enjoy music, red vines and popcorn afterward. Please sign up today!

Flu Shot Clinic at Wedgwood

This year, have your student get their flu shot at school and check another item off your to-do list! Nurse Sarah and her helpers from Seattle Visiting Nurses will give all registered students (and families! and staff!) their flu shots on Monday, October 21st. Please send your completed registration form to school by Wednesday, October 16th.

Help us Learn More about the Flu Virus

Want to help researchers learn more about the flu? And help everyone better prepare for flu season? The Seattle Flu Study (run by Wedgwood parent and epidemiologist Helen Chu) needs you! They’ll mail you everything you need to participate, including nasal swabs and flu tests. It’s super easy, quick, and painless. Visit their website to learn more and sign up.

Math Information Night

Join Principal Liu on Thursday, October 24th from 6:00-7:30pm to learn more about math curriculum at Wedgwood. Mr. Liu will explain the scope and sequence of math learning from Kindergarten through 8th grade, as well as the options students will have once they start middle school. This is a great way to learn more about Seattle Public Schools’ core math curriculum and how to best guide your student through their years of math education. Students are welcome to attend with their parents. Hope to see you there!

Volunteer in the Library!

Spending time in the library is a great way to get involved at school. You can sign up to volunteer during your students’ library time, helping to check out books, encouraging young readers, and generally keeping the library organized and accessible. Sign up now to help out!

Seattle School Board Elections

There’s one last chance to meet all of the candidates for the Seattle School Board! On November 5th you will vote in all school board races in the general election —not only within your own district—so it is important to learn about every candidate. To help you decide, join us for the last remaining all-candidate forum on October 17th, from 6:30-8pm, in the North Beach Elementary cafeteria. See you there!

Register Now for Wedgwood Chess Club
